Continuous, Transparent & Fair Assessment

At NAIS, students are never defined by a single exam. Grading reflects what they know, how they think, and how they grow over time.

Elementary School (KG–Grade 5)

Grades are based 100% on ongoing performance — no high-stakes exams. Students are assessed through consistent daily engagement, projects, and teacher observations.

Balanced & Meaningful Assessment

Unlike exam-heavy systems, NAIS uses multiple assessment methods throughout the semester, designed using Bloom's Taxonomy to ensure deep, meaningful learning.

  • Multiple Assessments Throughout the Semester
Not just one final exam — learning is evaluated continuously, giving students multiple opportunities to demonstrate their abilities.
  • Exams = Only 20% of Final Grade
Exams are part of the picture, not the whole picture. This reduces pressure and encourages sustained effort all year.
  • Bloom's Taxonomy Framework
Every assessment is crafted to challenge students at multiple cognitive levels — from remembering facts to creating original ideas.
  • Deep Understanding, Not Memorization
Students are rewarded for how they think and apply knowledge, not just for repeating information.

Parents Ask, We Answer

Everything families need to know about how the American curriculum works at NAIS Dubai.

Grading at NAIS is continuous, transparent, and based on overall student performance — not just exams.
  • Elementary School: 100% based on ongoing performance — classwork, projects, and assessments.
  • Secondary School: 80% coursework + 20% exams. Grades are reported as letter grades (A–F).
  • High School: Letter grades contribute to a GPA used in university applications.
Students are evaluated on what they know, how they think, and how they grow.
In Secondary School (Grades 6–12), exams make up only 20% of the final grade. The remaining 80% comes from coursework, assignments, projects, and participation throughout the year. In Elementary School, there are no formal exams — assessment is 100% coursework-based. This approach reduces pressure and ensures students develop genuine understanding rather than exam-only skills.
  • Formative assessments are daily learning checks — quizzes, exit tickets, classroom discussions. They help teachers understand where students are and adjust their teaching accordingly.
  • Summative assessments are end-of-unit tasks that measure what students have learned after a period of study — tests, essays, projects, or presentations.
Both types work together to give a complete, fair picture of each student's progress.
Advanced Placement (AP) courses are college-level classes offered to high school students (Grades 9–12). At NAIS, AP courses are available in Math & Sciences, Humanities & Languages, and Computer Science.
  • Students who pass the AP exam (score 3–5) may receive university credit, saving time and money in college.
  • AP courses demonstrate academic strength to university admissions offices worldwide.
  • Any motivated high school student can be recommended for AP courses by their teacher.
AP scores are recognized by universities in the USA, Canada, UK, and globally.
The American curriculum provides multiple pathways to university readiness:
  • GPA: A cumulative academic record reviewed by every university admissions office.
  • SAT / PSAT: Standardized tests recognized by universities worldwide.
  • AP Courses: Demonstrate ability to succeed at college-level work — and earn credit early.
  • IELTS: English proficiency certification for international university applications.
  • University Counseling: Dedicated counselors guide students through application processes.
Absolutely. One of the greatest strengths of the American curriculum is its flexibility and personalised approach. At NAIS:
  • Teaching is adapted to different learning styles and individual strengths.
  • Our Inclusion Program provides dedicated support for students who need additional assistance.
  • Students are never defined by a single exam result — continuous assessment gives every learner multiple chances to shine.
  • Small class sizes allow teachers to give personal attention to every student.
Every child is seen, supported, and valued at NAIS.
